"Despite the downward trend in exports, in May we managed to achieve an all-time record for container throughput in a single month of 43,967 TEU. The main reason for this growth is the transformation of sea freight, where general cargo is increasingly returning to containers and being transported by container vessels," says Vaidotas Šileika, our terminal manager.

 

Between January and May, we handled more than 200,000 TEUs of containers at the terminal, which is 18% more than in the same period in 2022. "The general trend of increasing empty container volumes in the port since the end of last year continues. However, we notice that if no container cargo is found within a certain period of time, it is then shipped empty to the ports where there is a demand for it," the CEO shares his insights.

 

According to Mr Šileika, Ro-Ro cargo is also on the rise, growing by 10% in 5 months to 298,000 tonnes, compared to 270,000 tonnes in the same period in 2022. "The main factor that influenced the growth of this indicator was the opening of the new ferry line TT-Line to Karlshamn," says Šileika. Currently, ferries depart from Ro-Ro Terminal 7 times a week, in the directions of Treleborg and Karlshamn.

 

In 5 months, 518 vessels were handled at our terminals, which is 13% more than in the same period in 2022.
