1st half of 2024 - a generous cargo period

In the first six months of 2024, our terminal increased its cargo volumes by 12% to 3.31 million tones, compared to 2.96 million tones in the same period of 2023.

In the first 6 months of this year, our terminal handled 260,570 TEU of containers, which is 9% more than in the same period in 2023. "Analyzing the container handling statistics, we can see that due to the increase in container freight prices, some cargoes are returning to general cargo vessels, so it is difficult to predict whether we will maintain a similar volume of container handling in the second half of the year," says Vaidotas Šileika, our CEO.

In January-June, we handled 516,000 tones of Ro-Ro cargo, which is 42% more than in the same period in 2023. "The key factor behind the strong increase in Ro-Ro cargo traffic is the activity of our partner ferry line TT-Line and its actions in attracting cargo traffic to the Port of Klaipėda," says our CEO.

According to Mr Šileika, when TT-Line offered the new Karlshamn route from our terminal to business, we can clearly see the benefits, which are measured in concrete figures. For example, in June, the ferry line reached an all-time monthly record, transporting 107,000 tones of cargo through the Ro-Ro terminal. Import cargoes of steel and metal products also grew.

The positive half-year results were also significantly influenced by the growth of general cargoes such as steel and metal products and wind turbine parts. In January-June, we handled 37% more general cargo (335,000 tones) than in the first half of last year. "Dozens of wind energy projects are currently underway in Lithuania and wind turbine kits are transported by sea. This is also boosting our terminal's general cargo volumes. We are pleased to be able to contribute to the implementation of green energy projects," says our CEO.

In the first half of the year, we handled 579 ships at our terminals.
