In January-September, we handled 377,537 TEU of containers, an increase of 3.4% compared to the same period in 2023. "As we predicted, in the second half of this year, due to the increase in container freight rates, a significant part of the cargo returned to general cargo vessels. Naturally, this factor makes it difficult to maintain container volumes, which are growing even more," says Vaidotas Šileika, CEO of our company.

In the first nine months of this year, Ro-Ro and General Cargo Terminal handled 816,000 tones of various cargoes, an increase of 46% compared to the same period in 2023 (558,000 tones). According to the CEO, the new direct service Travemunde - Klaipėda of the partner ferry line TT - Line and the active efforts to attract cargo flows to the Port of Klaipėda have contributed to this evident growth.

The nine-month consecutive growth in cargo performance was significantly influenced by the growing cargo volumes of general cargoes such as steel and metal products, wind turbine parts. In January-September, we handled 65% more general cargo (636,000 tones) than in the first nine months of last year. "This increase was driven by the acceleration of the transport of steel products from Algeria to Lithuania. This means more cargoes and more vessels arriving at our terminal," says our CEO.
