We initiated the E.K.O competition for Klaipėda school children

Together with the Lithuanian Maritime Museum, we invited Klaipėda schoolchildren to celebrate International Day for Combating Climate Change on 24 October.

"Contributing to educational projects such as the E.K.O. competition is important to us not only as a cargo terminal, but also as a community directly adjacent to the sea and the port. It is our responsibility to take care of the environment in which we work and to raise awareness of climate change and sustainable development among the younger generation. The earlier students understand the impact of their actions on the environment, the more sustainable a future we can build together," says Vaidotas Šileika, our CEO.

Olga Žalienė, Director of the Lithuanian Maritime Museum, echoes our CEO.What the world's seas and oceans will look like, what kind of animals will live on earth, what kind of water we will drink, what kind of air we will breathe in 10 or 50 years' time is the responsibility of all of us, and it is therefore very important for each of us to know what we can do to help slow global warming and how we can minimise the impact that human activity has on nature and, by extension, on our quality of life. This prompted the Lithuanian Maritime Museum to invite schoolchildren to participate in the Educational Co-operative Orienteering E.K.O. competition.

According to V. Šileika, education is an integral part of the company's activities, and this is confirmed by the fact that every year the company is visited by about 200 schoolchildren and students. This number of excursions is not only a result of the time of the specialists, but also of the knowledge they bring to the task of conveying key information on the sustainable operation of the port and the terminal's environmental responsibility. "This proves that education is a priority for us, because it is only through understanding and knowledge that we can create a conscious younger generation," adds our CEO.

The "E.K.O. Competition" for Klaipėda schoolchildren will consist of two phases - a virtual selection, in which students from all Klaipėda schools in grades 6, 7 and 8, together with their teachers, are invited to participate. The top three classes (one sixth, one seventh and one eighth grade) will be invited to the Lithuanian Maritime Museum on 24 October to participate in the final E.K.O. competition, where they will have an educational trip to the Lithuanian Maritime Museum's aquarium, the Baltic Sea Animal Rehabilitation Centre and the Dolphinarium.
