"Last year we became the leader in Klaipėda Port in terms of cargo volumes, but in order to maintain our company's competitiveness, we are investing in new equipment that will make our cargo handling processes even more efficient," says Vaidotas Šileika, General Manager of our Klaipėda Container Terminal.

The investment will be used to purchase 2 STS cranes from the Finnish company Konecranes, which will replace the old two cranes that have been in use so far and will be designed for ship-to-shore handling of containers, as well as being environmentally friendly, as they will use electricity in the handling processes.

According to Mr Šileika, global shipping trends mean that the terminal is receiving increasingly larger ships and the main requirement of the terminal's customers, the shipping lines, is to service the ships as quickly as possible. With the new equipment, we will increase our handling efficiency.

The new STS cranes from the Finnish Konecranes factory are scheduled to be delivered to Klaipėda in the second quarter of this year.
